1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account or using Inktale, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. If you use Inktale on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
2. Your account
You need an account to unlock and listen to most chapters. You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential, and are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country. Notify us promptly of any unauthorised use.
3. The service
Inktale lets you listen to audio fiction chapter by chapter. Some chapters are free to preview — typically the first chapters of a work — and further chapters are unlocked with Ink. We may add, change, or remove titles, features, and pricing over time. We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
4. Ink
Ink is a virtual credit used to unlock chapters within Inktale. It is a limited licence to access content, not money, and it has no cash value outside the platform.
- Earning and buying. You receive Ink through a subscription allowance, promotions, or top-ups. The Ink cost to unlock a chapter is shown before you spend.
- Unlocks are permanent. Once you unlock a chapter, it stays unlocked for your account, and the Ink spent is not returned.
- Ink does not expire while your account is active, and unused Ink rolls over between billing periods.
- No transfer. Ink is tied to your account and cannot be transferred, resold, or exchanged for cash except where required by law.
5. Subscriptions, top-ups, and payment
Plans provide a monthly Ink allowance. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. When you cancel, you keep your plan and any remaining Ink until the end of the period you have already paid for; we do not prorate partial periods. Top-ups add Ink immediately and, where offered, may be available only to active subscribers.
Prices are shown in the app and may change; changes apply to future billing periods. Except where the law gives you a refund right (for example, statutory withdrawal rights for consumers in the EEA/UK), purchases of Ink and subscription fees are non-refundable, particularly once Ink has been spent to unlock content. Payments are handled by our payment processor under its own terms.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Download, record, copy, redistribute, or publicly perform audio or other content except as the service expressly allows.
- Circumvent unlock, streaming, or concurrent-stream limits, or share your account to give others access you have not paid for.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-access the service, or interfere with its normal operation.
- Reverse engineer, probe, or attack the platform or its security.
- Use Inktale for anything unlawful or infringing.
Inktale is licensed for your personal, non-commercial listening. One stream may play at a time per account.
7. Content and intellectual property
The stories, audio, artwork, and the Inktale software and brand are owned by Inktale or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and listen to content you have unlocked, for your own enjoyment. No other rights are granted.
8. Authors and royalties
Some works are published by independent authors. Where a work is eligible, its author earns a royalty share on the Ink spent to unlock its chapters, credited at the time of the unlock. If you publish on Inktale, you confirm you hold the necessary rights to the content you submit and grant Inktale the licence needed to host, stream, and promote it on the platform.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors, or that any particular title will remain available.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Inktale is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data or content. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory consumer rights.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Inktale and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms or use the service in a way that harms Inktale or other users. On termination, your right to access content ends; sections that by their nature should survive (such as content ownership, disclaimers, and liability) continue to apply.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Inktale evolves. We will update the date above and give notice of material changes in the app. Continuing to use the service after an update means you accept the revised terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable at Inktale's place of establishment, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live. Disputes will be handled by the competent courts, subject to any right you have to bring a claim in your local courts.
